Mitchell student artists claim top prize…again

A portion of the Gertie Belle Rogers Elementary School commons area served as a make-shift art gallery Tuesday.

Mitchell School Superintendent Joe Graves says the district is on a hot-streak. “For the 17th year in a row, we were the sweepstakes winner of the art (exhibit) at the state fair,” Graves said. If you looked at some of the art work, it’s beautiful stuff.” He added the Art Department does a nice job with the students.

Some of the blue-ribbon award-winning artwork created by Mitchell students.

The blue-ribbon creations were on display for the school board which recognized the students for their work during its meeting.

Graves also announced art teachers Marica Shannon and Allison Palmer each were recently awarded $1,000 grants towards classroom projects.
