Judge denies sentence modification for convicted felon

A Judge has denied a Mitchell woman’s request for sentence modification. 25 year old Kaitlin Minder was sentenced to four years in the state women’s prison in 2016 for possession with intent to distribute and possession of between one-ounce but less than a half-pound of marijuana.

She and her boyfriend Jordan Munterfering were involved in illegal drug distribution, arrested and sent to prison. Munterfering remains incarcerated. Minder was granted early release in July 2017. During a Tuesday court appearance she asked for a reduction in her fines and be granted a suspended imposition of sentence so she could find better job opportunities and care for her child. Minder’s attorney told the court she had been compliant with her parole conditions and re-payment plan for fines court costs and other fees.

Assistant Attorney General Doug Barnett disagreed and argued Minder had been consuming alcohol and smoking marijuana in August.

Judge Chris Giles concurred and denied Minder’s request.
