The livestock area of the Hanson County fairgrounds has a new look. Heidi Berg of the Clever Clovers 4H club says a state grant helped jump start the project. “From that grant we just snow-balled the idea to renovate a few areas in our 4H grounds that needed to be done,” said Berg.
The improvements include three new wash racks for hogs, sheep and goats plus new hog pens and gates.
Berg says several businesses from the Alexandria, Emery and Mitchell communities each made significant contributions on top of the state grant.
She says the improvements make it easier for the 4Her’s to handle their animals as they prepare for showing. “A lot of the kids spend all summer working on their 4H animals,” Berg said. “So I find it very important for us to have facilities that are good for the animals and for the 4H’ers during their Achievement Days.”
Berg says they’re looking to expand their donor wall to raise additional funds to continue improvements.
