Fire investigators have narrowed their probe of where and how a Thursday evening fire that gutted a metal building housing Upper Midwest Garage Doors started.
Mitchell Fire Marshal Shannon Sandoval says statements from the owner and the first firefighters on the scene indicate the fire started in an office in the southwest corner of the building. “At this time we have an area of origin, but because it’s still going to remain undetermined at this time until everybody kind of wraps up their investigation,” Sandoval said.
Considering the amount of damage and outside assistance Sandoval feels confident they’ll determine a cause. “We have been able to remove a lot of debris and see some of the…fire patterns and smoke patterns where it seems to be the heaviest damage,” said Sandoval.
Insurance investigators are working the scene as well. Sandoval says while the building and its contents are a total loss, no one was hurt.
Firefighters from Mitchell and Ethan controlled the blaze in about an hour.
