Fire guts a business south of Mitchell

Fire gutted a business outside of Mitchell early Thursday evening. Mitchell assistant Fire Chief Marius Laursen says firefighters from Mitchell and Ethan responded to Upper Midwest Garage Door shortly after six pm. “They had a fully involved structure fire south of Mitchell,” said Laursen. “A large tin pole barn fully involved.”

Several loud pops came from the burning structure as firefighters poured on water. “We guess probably propane tanks or something along that line,” Lausen said.

Firefighters unload tanker truck full of water into a portable storage pool.

He says firefighters were also forced to truck in water from near Walmart. Laursen says officials will start investigating the cause of the fire as soon as it’s safe to enter the building.

Firefighters begin taking down the west wall as the fire is controlled.
