Vroom says chlorpyrifos ruling is flawed

The head of CropLife America says the federal appeals court ruling last week for the EPA to ban a pesticide is flawed, “It has serious procedural and precedential issues and, beyond that, we don’t think the court has had the benefit of the full evaluation of the scientific matters at question,” says Jay Vroom.

Vroom tells Brownfield Ag News chlorpyrifos is not as widely used as it once was but plays an important role in integrated pest management and resistance control for growers, “For some newer products that may develop resistance from insects quickly, chlorpyrifos can be rotated into farmers’ treatment mix to insure that other, newer products are able to remain viable in the marketplace for a lot longer.”

Vroom says they have great hope and faith that the EPA will be successful in appealing the ruling.
