Shutdown complicates work of ag economist

The government shutdown is complicating the work of agricultural economists like Todd Hubbs at the University of Illinois.

“Well I’m a fundamentalist, so I like to see the USDA data come in.  I do projections on what I think is going to happen, and whether you like it or not the market moves off USDA numbers.”

He says the January reports help form expectations on corn and soybean prices for the year ahead.
