Minnesota farmer says strip-till gives him advantage during late spring

A central Minnesota farmer is confident having a strip-till system has given him an advantage as wet, cool conditions delay planting throughout most of the Upper Midwest.

Bryan Ryberg of Buffalo Lake says with strips built in the fall, there’s no need for spring tillage.

“We have absolutely no wheel compaction because we’re not running a big field cultivator at an angle across the field and having to plant into those tracks and that type of thing.”

Although he hasn’t started planting corn yet, Ryberg tells Brownfield his soil will be more capable of bearing the weight of equipment when conditions become fit.
