Cattle feeding operation expansion denied

The Missouri Clean Water Commission upheld the recommendation of the state’s Administrative Hearing Commission to deny an expansion permit for a western Missouri cattle operation. Valley Oaks Steak applied to expand from a 999-head to a 6,999-head concentrated animal feeding operation. The application ran into opposition from neighbors like Karen Lux, who tells Brownfield the issue is the facility’s location.

Commission Chairwoman Ashley McCarty tells Brownfield the board’s reason for upholding the denial was more for application deficiencies rather than for water quality protection.
